π UsVox Fraud Prevention Information
Protect Your Business from Unauthorized Access and Costly Fraud
Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting business phone systems, including SIP trunks and voicemail platforms. Once they gain access, they can place unauthorized long-distance or international calls β and your business is fully responsible for the charges.
At UsVox, we take security seriously and want to help you stay protected. Please review and apply the following best practices to reduce your risk of telecom fraud.
Your security is our priority. Stay protected β act before fraud happens.
β Recommended Security Practices
π Administrator & User Account Security
- Change your administrator password immediately upon setup and update it regularly.
- Change default voicemail passwords for all users to secure PINs.
- Never share SIP account credentials (username/password) with unauthorized personnel.
- Do not send or forward emails containing system credentials, recovery links, or login passwords. If credentials must be shared, use a secure method.
- Delete any emails that contain SIP credentials after configuration is complete.
βοΈ SIP Trunk and PBX Hardening
- For SIP Trunk Admins:
- Change the SIP trunk password regularly.
- Set balance warning thresholds to monitor unexpected usage.
- Remove any router port forwarding that exposes SIP ports.
- Disable SIP ALG on your router or firewall (UsVox SIP does require it)
- Block port 22 (SSH) on your router/firewall to prevent unauthorized remote access.
𧱠Network & Device Protection
- Keep your firewall and router firmware up to date.
- Enable intrusion detection and traffic filtering features on your network equipment.
- Regularly audit your system logs for unusual call patterns or failed login attempts.
